San Bernardino County Museum Curator of History Michele Nielsen will present a program, “Caring for Your Family Clothing Treasures,” at the Victor Valley Museum in Apple Valley on Thursday, May 17, at 1:00 p.m. The presentation, with information to use for protecting and preserving family heirlooms at home, is included with paid museum admission.
“Many times, we store our quilts and clothing away in plastic bags, cedar chests, or special bags from dry cleaners, in hopes of preserving them for the future,” said Nielsen. “In this presentation, we will find out why these might not be the best storage solutions, and explore other options that are better. If you are not sure what materials you need, or how to begin, this program will be helpful. Everyone can make simple changes in the way they store their christening gowns or flapper dresses, and prolong the life of their treasures. Bring your questions and concerns, and we will discuss them, too.”
The Victor Valley Museum is a branch of the San Bernardino County Museumlocated at 11873 Apple Valley Road in Apple Valley. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 (adult), $4 (senior or military), and $2.50 (student).
