So far so good in 2008

To contact us Click HERE

i'll be pretty brief in this one, but thats not a bad thing. i am too darn busy having a good time!

We started new years out in the desert at Ocotillo Wells doing some riding and Ranger rallying (or as the socal locals call it "mobbing" the hills). Nate had his 8th birthday on Dec 29th and got a new KTM 50sx. He got the hang of the bigger bike really fast and decided that he is going to be a Freerider like Dad when he gets bigger. His main goal of the weekend was to get some big air and he got it! It was so fun to ride through Ocotillos' majestic hills with my little man in tow. It was awesome stopping and watching him find his little "kickers". Josh on the other hand rode for a total of about 4.5 minutes. He says he don't want to crash. Ironically, he must have bumped his head a million times playing and just being a kid during the week.

Being that the first few rounds of Supercross are held on the West coast, January is always a blast because some of my buddies come into town to play a couple of days before hand. Now that I have the "Renner Ranch", we have had a couple of good ride days. A couple members of the the Nitro crew even stopped by and put it on there blog as well, check it, http://nitrocircusblog.blogspot.com/2008/01/renners-ranch.html . Andy Bell, Tenacious J and myself headed up to do battle at the annual Racer X Industry party @ Pole Position Raceway in Corona (in which I dominated). It was a riot getting to battle with guys like Windham, Reed and the MX industry big timers. Best part of the night was when Pole Position Founder, Ken Faught let me take my boys on the track after hours! They loved it! I think Nate may have some potential in finally putting his middle name (Racer) to use! Either that, or I have to change it to "Freerider". Another big shout out to Live Nation and especially Nicole Mancuso for setting up some tickets to the Monster Jam at Angels Stadium.  I was their scouting the Monster Jam scene hoping to see that their is room for a "Who's Your Daddy" truck!  It was a great show, but I will admit that it sucked watching the FMX show and letting 4 other riders get the spotlight in front of a sold out stadium.  Also, I'm not sure if it was gravedigger, or someone in my group, but some one was running some "Bad Gas" in Anaheim!

Until next time. RR out.

It seems that the ole saying, "when it rains it pours" is not just an analogy.  My compound is under water right now and of course I finally have gotten past my holiday slump.  I am sooo ready to ride right now.  Due to some prior obligations though, I can't just pack up the Rage'n and head out to the hills, but I can still reminisce!
Check put these Rich Van Every pics that he took while we were filming the Ocotilllo Wells segment of "the Great ride open" on Fuel T.V. And the Dune pic is another RVE classic from Red Bull Ride to the Hills 06' @ Glamis. ok, I'm keeping this one short and utilizing my time to catch up on my house stuff! RR

Thursday I had a bunch of riding buds over to the ole Ranch to do some riding.  It wasn't anything out of the ordinary, but I think I may have over done it a bit, because I woke up Friday morning with one heck of a tight body.  i think the years of crashing things is finally catching up with me.  Hopefully it just had something to do with the lack of riding the past couple of weeks though.  Orrrrrrr, it could have something to do with me doing an impression of an ostrich jamming my head into the foam pit while trying front flips on the 110.  Who knows!  Anyhow, I'll let the photos do the talking.  These super crisp shots are courtesy of Racer X Canadas own James Lissimore. Check out is other works @ www.lissimorephoto.com  . Thanks Dude!
Riders: Tommy Clowers, Jeff Tilton, Myles Richmond, Benoit Milot, Mat Rebeaud and Muah.

It's been a wild couple of weeks.

Howdy folks, sorry to have been slipping a bit on the bloggage.  Since the bogus call at the MotoX championships, i have taken a little breather from the ramps and jumps in order to get a second wind and get fired up for what I hope to be my best Summer yet.
May 3rd was a cool day for me as i got the opportunity to wrench for my son Nate at the KTM KJSC race during the Las Vegas Supercross.  Even though he was a bit intimidated, Nate really did an awesome job in the race and passed a few kids to take 10th.  I was so proud of the little guy.  He really did amazing, especially for never riding.  I have been around the KJSC rig many times but never really realized how awesome of a job the entire crew does.  much respect and thanks from the Renner camp!

Well. after Vegas SX, things got pretty wild..... Well, wild is probably not the best word to describe my last few days.  Insane may be a bit better.  How about Psychotic?.... I'm not exactly sure how to describe a trip with the Nitro Circus crew these days.  Obviously, that is what I am getting to, as i just returned home from an out of hand few days in the middle of one of the worlds most beautiful lakes, Lake Powell, which borders Utah and Arizona.  To make a long story short, let me say that you will not be disapointed when Thrillbillies Doublewide comes out later this year.  I can't even begin to describe the things I witnessed in my days at the lake. TP truly is a MadMan possessed and now has a complete army of possessed accomplices running around and participating right by his side.  I chose to bail early to ensure no physical harm!

You can't get rid of me that easy!  C'mon now.
I guess I was a bit Blogged out for a while.  But I'm stoked to be back on here doing some work and hustlin'.  I've done a lot since the last blog and I have to say that I am definitely bummed that I haven't stayed on top of documenting at least some of my travels.
Anyhow, the time is now and i'm on a mission trying to work harder than ever to Entertain you people.  It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it!
Heres a video that I put a lot of work into the last day. (mostly cause I'm still learning, not because it's good!)

CURE Intl - Orthopedic Excellence

To contact us Click HERE
The quality of the reconstructive surgical program we have today is a direct result of the collaboration with our partner CURE International.  CURE is a christian organization that operates nearly a dozen teaching hospitals in developing nations around the world with a focus on surgical treatments for children with disabilities and deformities.  Their experience in operating hospitals in the developing world and providing top quality care in challenging environments has been invaluable in our earthquake relief efforts.  CURE has provided world renowned experts in reconstructive surgery to serve the needs of earthquake victims.  We have developed a reputation in the country of Haiti as a tertiary referral center for a variety of complex orthopedic cases.  CURE's Haiti Medical Director Dr. Scott Nelson is also a Loma Linda University School of Medicine clinical faculty and alum.

CURE has had an orthopedic program in Haiti for a number of years prior to January's earthquake.  The existence of this program pre-quake benefited us greatly by providing in-country knowledge, experience, and resources.  CURE has provided invaluable logistical and supply resources such as:
  • In-country logistics coordinator (Mr. Phil Hudson)
  • Air and ground transportation
  • Shelving units
  • Orthopedic surgical equipment
  • Surgical nursing staff from their Dominican hospital
  • Multiple international volunteer teams
  • Volunteer coordination (Erin, Heather, Robbie)

L - R Phil Hudson, Dr. Nelson, Loubins Labiche
THANK YOU CURE INTERNATIONAL for all of your help here at the Hopital Adventiste!

OCC Coloring Books in Haiti

To contact us Click HERE
My good friend Irene Naesse, a geography teacher at Orange Coast College (OCC) sent me the following email a little less than a month ago:

I am going to challenge my students to each bring in a coloring book and crayons to send to you in Haiti for the kids.  I have about 300 students this semester....so that is a lot of crayolas!

Well about 10 days ago Irene delivered 4 Xerox copy-paper boxes full of coloring books and crayons to my house so my wife Laurel could bring them with her to Haiti this last weekend.  While Laurel could not bring them all, she did pack a couple dozen books and crayon sets in with the medical supplies she carried in her luggage.  The remaining coloring books and crayons will be carried in by other volunteers heading here over the next few months.  Below are some pictures of the OCC coloring books bringing joy and healing to the kids of Haiti.

Merci beaucoup to Irene and the OCC Geography students.

The Translator Tribute

Greetings from the Hopital.  While we continue to see untreated earthquake related trauma from the Jan. 12 quake, we are functioning more like a hospital and less like a disaster response unit every day.  We do still have approximately 40 patients outside in tents but, have the entire 2nd floor NE wing devoted to and filled with in-patients.  The 1st floor SE wing is also filled with patients in our pre-op and two post-op rooms.  At any point in time we are housing about 50 patients inside the main hospital and another 20 or so in the in-patient pediatrics and obstetrics wards in the polyclinic building.  We continue to staff and support a very active 24x7 emergency room, as well as OB/GYN, Ortho, and Medicine clinics Monday - Friday.  The operating room remains very busy averaging 15 surgical cases per day, 8 - 10 orthopedic/reconstructive, 2 - 3 OB, and the balance general surgical cases.  The stream of volunteer medical staff continues to flow into the hospital here thanks to the efforts of our coordinating body at the LLU Global Health Institute.

On Wednesday morning seven of our translators–a group of handsome, strong young men–surprised us at our morning briefing by giving a heart-warming thank-you and tribute.  They had it all planned and staged and even had made special wooden plaques that they gave to some of our long term volunteers.  The plaques read, "Thank you for helping us in Haiti, together we move."  The translators have been a God-send.  They are always friendly and eager to help (and their help is much needed).  Communication has been a big challenge, since the majority of volunteers speak neither french or creole fluently.  Imagine 70 english-speaking volunteers trying to communicate with hundreds of patients, family members and the 100+ Haitian hospital staff on a daily basis–impossible without the devoted help of these really amazing guys.

The O.R. translator team and Dr. Chandy
Thanks all around

LLU Strategy For Hopital Adventiste d'Haiti

To contact us Click HERE
Loma Linda University (LLU) and its partners are continuing to work to support the Hopital Adventiste d'Haiti in Port-au-Prince.  LLU is not alone in these efforts.  Together they are pooling their resources and are working closely with Park Ridge Adventist Hospital/AHS, Florida Hospital, CURE International, Life Enhancement Association for People (LEAP), and Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA).
The following strategy update was posted yesterday on the Global Health Institute website.
  • The need for additional medical teams continues, but as we move forward the composition of these teams will change to reflect current needs at the hospital.  Keep in mind the needs change almost daily.
  • As of April 20, 2010, the "Dream Team" includes:

    • 1-2 Orthopaedic Surgeons
    • 1 General Surgeon
    • 1-2 Anesthesiologists (MDs and CRNAs)
    • 1-2 ER Physicians
    • 1-2 Pediatricians
    • 4-8 RNs of whom 2-4 with OR and ER experience
    • 1-2 Physical Therapists and/or Occupational Therapists
    • 2 Pharmacists
    • 2+ Central Supply Personnel
    • 2 Utilities and Maintenance Personnel
  • We also welcome applications from OB-GYNs, PAs,NPs and other health care professionals.  We would like to keep the number of our teams to about 25-30 people on any given week.
  • The teams will work at the Adventist Hospital.
  • The current strategy is to send in teams for at least a 9 day cycle (Teams arrive on Friday and leave on Sunday.)  A longer term of service is preferred.
  • LLU will maintain and manage the schedule of the various teams and provide them with information about their trip and tips about what to bring, etc.
  • Selection and composition of the particular teams will be done with input from all the partners mentioned above in close consultation with the administration at the Adventist Hospital of Haiti.  It is very important that we send essential personnel in an organized manner so as to not strain already limited support resources.
  • LLU and our partners are committed to support our hospital in the months to come.  These efforts will build on local available resources under the leadership of Lesly Archer, MD, Medical Director for the Adventist Hospital and supported by Orthopedic Surgeon, Scott Nelson, MD.

Inland Empire beginning to recover from recession's job losses

To contact us Click HERE
ONTARIO - The Inland Empire may be the scene of moderate job growth this year as some sectors appear to be rebounding, but those seeking work would likely do well to look somewhere other than construction or government for their next job. That's one lesson that can be taken away from Friday's "State of the Region" forecast, which the Inland Empire Economic Partnership hosted on Friday at DoubleTree by Hilton Ontario Airport Hotel.

The IEEP's chief economist, John Husing, said at the morning event that the Inland Empire's recent job growth means the regional labor market is finally beginning to rebound from the downsizing of the Great Recession. "We're only this year starting to come back," he said. A comeback, in Husing's projections, means a two-county job gain of 16,300 positions this year.

That amount of hiring would result in a regional unemployment rate of 11.5 percent for the year. San Bernardino and Riverside counties had a combined 12.5 percent unemployment rate in February. An increase of 16,300 new jobs would also signify an improvement above last year's job gain of nearly 3,800 hirings across the Inland Empire. The region lost more than 146,000 jobs between 2008 and 2010.

Inland Empire is bubbling with craft breweries

To contact us Click HERE

Hangar 24, I & I Brewing, Dale Bros., Inland Empire Brewing, Packing House Brewing and more could make the Inland Empire a beer destination. A business park in Chino is a long way removed from an Iowa cornfield, but the owners of I & I Brewing can't help but compare their early success to a 1989 baseball movie.

People have called Chuck Foster saying they cannot find his 2-month old brewery, and it's not hard to see why. Like many a maker of craft beer, his I & I Brewing (14175 Telephone Ave. Unit J, Chino; iandibrewing.blogspot.com) sits in a nondescript manufacturing and commercial district, one in which I & I's Unit J looks identical to, say, Unit B. Yet with zero advertising, and only enough beer to be open two days per week, Foster, a full-time field service engineer by day, can barely meet demand. "This is really like the 'Field of Dreams,'" said Foster, referring to the Kevin Costner film in which a ballpark is erected in the middle of nowhere. "If you build it, people will find it."

The same could be said for the entire craft beer scene in the Inland Empire, a suddenly burgeoning brewing hotbed. I & I doesn't bottle or sell kegs to local restaurants, but it does have 14 taps, many of them filled with unique ginger- or peach-enhanced concoctions. The tasting room, however, is the size of a closet, and the space can comfortably hold about as many people as it has spigots. Still, it is just one of many thriving breweries in the Inland Empire, a destination that is now home to one of the fastest-growing breweries in America, Redlands' Hangar 24.

"By our count, there are 20 breweries that are either open or planning to open in the Inland Empire," said Hangar 24's head brewer, Kevin Wright. "I think there are 10 that are planning to open in the next year. This is definitely a growth area."

Apple Valley reduces unaltered dog licensing fees

To contact us Click HERE

Beginning April 2, Apple Valley residents can license unaltered dogs at a reduced rate thanks to sponsorships from local veterinarians and the action of the Town Council.

“Ultimately, this insures that as many as 1,000 dogs and cats get their rabies shot and have an increased chance of being returned to their owner if they are lost,” said Apple Valley Mayor Barb Stanton, who thanked two local veterinarians for offering reduced spay and neuter rates to lower the licensing fees.

Until now, the cost of licensing a dog that had not been spayed or neutered was $75. Tuesday’s council action reduces that fee to $65 per dog and establishes a $35 licensing fee for unaltered cats. Both fees include a free rabies vaccination and permanent microchip identification.

Animal Services Manager Gina Schwin-Whiteside explained the new pricing will be offered to the first 500 cats and 500 dogs to be licensed.

“The program would not have been possible if it were not for the generosity of Dr. Cliff Jessen at Apple Valley Animal Hospital and Dr. Jaime Velasco of Bear Valley Animal Hospital,” said Schwin-Whiteside. “These community partners have consistently made a positive impact in the lives of Apple Valley pets for many years and we appreciate their support.”

The Town of Apple Valley Animal Shelter is located at 22131 Powhatan Road in Apple Valley. Contact the Animal Shelter for details at (760) 240-7000 x7555 or visitwww.AVAnimals.org.

For more information on additional Community Partnerships for any Apple Valley program, contact Marketing and Public Affairs Officer Kathie Martin at (760) 240-7000 ext. 7070.

Inland Empire forecast to examine job growth despite slowness in construction industry

To contact us Click HERE
ONTARIO - The Inland Empire Economic Partnership's chief economist John Husing on Friday plans to discuss how the region's labor markets seem to be improving while construction and other sectors remain weak. "It's very unusual. We've not ever seen this pattern," Husing said.

The economist is scheduled to present his forecast on Friday at the IEEP's State of the Region conference in Ontario. Other experts from the Inland Empire business and economic development fields are also scheduled to speak at the event and let audience members know whether they agree or disagree with Husing's analysis. Previewing his speech, Husing said data from the first two months of this year shows employers from San Bernardino and Riverside counties are seeing job growth over the same period in 2011.

The industries that have carried Inland Empire job growth, Husing said, are "population serving" sectors such as food services, blue-collar work in manufacturing and logistics as well as even higher-paying management and professional jobs. A Cal State San Bernardino survey reported Monday that manufacturing growth jumped in March in San Bernardino and Riverside counties.
